Save The Date For African Fashion Week In London (AFWL) 2017

Over 100 African fashion designers and exhibitors will feature at the 7th edition of Africa Fashion Week between Aug.11, 2017 and Aug.12, 2017 at the Grand hall of the Freemasons in London. Ronke Ademiluyi, founder, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria/London on Wednesday disclosed that the event would be an exhibition of the African fashion whose creations had become unique designs and brands. She said that the designers and exhibitors would be coming from Ghana, Togo, Kenya, South Africa, Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique, Senegal, Uganda and Cameroon.“Some Nigerian designers that will, also, be participating include: Signature Secret, Neopele, Lady Biba, Step Up, Sheila Black Style, House of Bo and Joela Bags.“The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), will lead a delegation of Nigeria’s best emerging designers that will also be accompanied by the Council’s catwalk show,” she said. Ademiluyi also said that 10,000 guests are expected to grace the two-day show at the Freemasons Hall in London to be entertained by 60 catwalk shows with daily exhibitions.

“This year’s show will hold in two days; with five shows, that will have 60 designers on the catwalk, along 40 exhibitors,” she said Ademiluyi said that the African show would be part of activities to promote African fashion before the international community.“Africa Fashion Week London, a sister event to the just concluded Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, is a celebration of African designs, talents and diverse ethnic fashions in the United Kingdom (UK).“It is going to be a celebration of African designs, talents and the diverse ethnic influences that contribute to the development of fashion industry in the UK.“Samson So boye, an established London-based fashion stylist and a creative director behind the brand `Afro chic’ who has worked as a freelance stylist for publications will be our head stylist for AFWL 2017 .

 She said that since the debut of the programme in 2011, it had been identifying and promoting new and emerging designers inspired by the rich culture of Africa and contemporary designs. The princess said that AFWL had become Europe’s largest event for African and African inspired fashion. Ademiluyi said that the show was conceived at promoting new and emerging designers that were inspired by the rich African culture incorporated into contemporary designs. She said that AFWL had become the platform through which designers boost their creativity in African fashion at international markets, as well as the nation’s tourism industry. Ademiluyi, founder of Africa Fashion Week London/Nigeria, said that Africans should appreciate what they had and make efforts to promote them to the rest of the world. The 2017 Africa Fashion Week, Nigeria organised in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, in April and June, showcased the nation’s iconic pride with the theme: “ Celebrating the vibrant Pulse of Africa”.

Ambassador Stevens and Logus Koroma said to have Visited a strippers club in New Jersey

Sierra Leone Ambassador Bokarie Stevens and Minister of Transportation Logus Koroma reportedly visited  a hooters  stripe club in New Jersey whiles attending the APC North America convention all expenses paid by the Sierra Leone people.

The said photo was posted on Facebook by the Sierra Leone government spokesman Mr Agibu Jalloh after the incident from inside the hooters strip club with sensitive government information on the table for all the Strippers to see.

Airtel Mobile Money growing in Popularity

Yusuf Turay is an Airtel money agent stationed at Eastern Police. Every morning he comes to the spot with the Airtel tricycle to provide mobile money services to the public. He also addresses customers that have problems with their Sim Cards. Hundreds come each week to his tricycle outlet that could be described as ‘a bank on wheels.’ The tricycles were provided by the company to facilitate the sending and receipt of money from their loved ones in different areas of the country.

“I am here for the rest of the day and many of my customers say they send money through this method than going to the banks,” Yusuf said.
Mobile money transfer is now the fastest and probably the safest means to send money to friends and relatives around the country. During the Ebola outbreak, health workers in remote communities were paid their weekly allowances via mobile money. The transaction can take place any time of the day and anywhere.

“You can contact us at any time of the day to send or receive money.  If you want the person to receive Le50,000, you need to send Le52,000,” he said.

The growing popularity of mobile money is the ease and flexibility of transaction.
Airtel mobile subscribers can dial a special number to determine the location of an agent to either send or receive money. Yusuf has worked for Airtel for almost 8 months, moving around with a rider.
About 11 percent of the people in Sierra Leone have bank accounts out of a population of 7.1 million. But over 3 million people have mobile handsets. Sierra Leone has about 4 licensed mobile operators that together cover over 80 percent of the country. The mobile spread and the facts gathered about the operations of Splash and Airtel create a situation that the 13 commercial bank could exploit to reach the unbanked.

Globally, more than 2.5 billion adults do not have a formal bank account. Most of them reside in developing countries. In Africa only 20 percent of families have bank account. Mobile money is therefore a convenient means to transact money.

Expert calls for more government attention to Epilepsy in Sierra Leone

An expert on the medical condition Epilepsy in Sierra Leone has called on the government to pay more attention to it in terms providing resources towards treatment of its suferers. Dr Radcliff Lisk, who is also director of the Sierra Leone Epilepsy Programme, said the condition poses more threat to the country than diseases like HIV in terms of number of cases.

The Epilepsy programme estimates that there are at least 60,000 sufferers in the country. All the categories of Epilepsy are found in Sierra Leone, the organization said.

Epilepsy is incurable but it also is not life threatening as a condition but it can cause accidental death.

Dr Lisk explained that the nature of the condition, which is basically the result of electrical spark in the brain, could cause a sudden attack and this could be dangerous for patients in dangerous environment.

Woman Shoots Her ‘Friend’ For Being Atheist, Keeps Body As ‘Shrine To God’

A woman in Phoenix Arizona has allegedly killed her“friend” for what she considered to be the worst crime of all "Not believing in God"

Anitra Braxton was arrested after police obtained a search warrant for her house and discovered the corpse of her friend on her couch. Braxton explained
that she placed the body there as a “shrine to God.”

Later, when she was questioned  by police, Braxton admitted that she had indeed shot her friend in the eye because she didn’t profess a belief in God. Braxton has been charged with first degree murder, and there may be additional charges as authorities believe the deceased may have been pregnant.
