According to reports from the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, out of 3,434 primary schools
nationwide, which entered for the 2016 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), Yamakai Action Preparatory was top with an average aggregate of 323.8, and all 25 pupils that took the exams passed, with a 100% rate.
Candidates that entered for this year’s exam was 115,706, from 3,434 primary schools nationwide, but worthy to be noted is that entries for 2016 were 10,984, (5,380 boys and 5,604 girls) which is more than the 2015, NPSE with an increase of 10.5% nationwide.
However, a candidate from Becklyn Preparatory School, Binta Bah topped the list nationally with an aggregate of 358, which is slightly below the corresponding score of 362 obtained in 2015.
Alpha Wurie, of Martile International, also scored 358 tying with Binta Bah to be in first position, while Maemah Zombo from Josuel Primary came third with 356. Helen Schenks of SOS Herman Gmeiner scored 355 taking 4th position, and Avril Femi-Pratt from Dele Nursery and Preparatory is fifth, in this year’s NPSE.
From the 115,556 whose results were presented to the Education Ministry, 86,985 passed in line with the cut-off grade of 230 as recommended by the Ministry.
The overall pass rate is 75%, with boys 76% and girls 74%, which overall pass rate is fractionally below the 76% of 2015.
Schools with all candidates passing … the Eastern and Southern regions topped with 175, and the North 261, while the Western Area 141 schools and the national total number of schools with all candidates passing are 752, which is 22% out of the 3,434 primary schools nationwide
